Juba residents who turned up in great numbers yesterday to witness the official announcement of the preliminary referendum results for South Sudan reacted positively to the proclamation.

One resident who did not want to reveal his name told SCR News that South Sudanese had brought their struggle to an end by fulfilling their aspirations.

Another resident said the results mean independence and the end of marginalization and oppression.

He added that it also gives room for the challenges of developing a new nation.

The Southern Sudan Referendum Commission announced yesterday that south Sudanese voted 99.5 percent for separation.
