Eastern Equatoria state Assembly approved with amendments the 2011 budget that amounts to 154.4 million Sudanese pounds.

The budget was passed on Wednesday after three readings, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Finance, Trade and Industries minister Josephine Akulang Abalang presented the draft bill to the state Parliament in December, last year.

State government spokesperson Allan Nasike Lochul was grateful that the 2011 budget was approved.

She added that the budget paved the way for the state government to provide services to the people.

Ms. Nasike described that budget as inclusive and pro-people, with priorities to service delivery.

She said the 2011 budget covered the new ministries in the state including the just-created ministry of animal resources.

The minister praised the Bill of Appropriation saying it will guide the state spending during the year.

One of the penalties in the Bill of Appropriations includes refund to the state treasury of any unauthorized reallocations by a ministry or spending agency.

The Bill says any employee engaging in corruption practices faces the courts of law in addition to refunding the amount and be restricted from holding an office dealing with finances.
