The leader of Women in Upper Nile State said women in South Sudan should have a better future in the event of secession.
Zeinab Thon Akwuei told Bakhita Radio in Malakal that women in her state participated actively in the referendum in anticipation for a better future.She recalled the suffering that the southern women experienced under the leadership of the Islamic government from Khartoum.
Ms. Zeinab said their best wishes were for southern Sudan to get independent from the north.
She explained that secession would not imply disengagement with northern Sudan but a search for freedom and equality for the citizens of the two friendly states.
Upper Nile state voted 99.22 for secession in the southern Sudan referendum for self determination.
