More than 500 citizens in Kapoeta East County, Eastern Equatoria, did not vote to choose the future of the region during the referendum exercise.
The chairperson of the Kapoeta East Parliamentary Committee Mark Lokorai Dede Moi said the total registered number of voters was more than 6,000 while the turnout was more than 5,000. He added that more than 500 did not turn up to vote.Mr. Moi said the reasons for people not to vote included transport problems, food shortage, lack of water and pasture for animals forcing the pastoral community to move to the neighbouring countries.
He recommended the construction of water dams to reduce movement and cater for future votings.
