The US representative in Juba called upon the government of South Sudan to be transparent with its people in the event of independence.

Barry Walkley told SCR News that there should be a policy of openness and transparency with its people particularly regarding revenue.

He added that the government should tell the citizens how the money from the budget and the natural resources is spent in order to fight corruption and promote good governance.

Mr. Walkley said it was crucial that South Sudan has good relations with its neighbours.

He added that the government should ensure peace at the borders, smooth trade and free access to markets.

The US diplomat noted that the citizenship issues should be addressed between Juba and Khartoum.

Mr. Walkley described the referendum process as remarkably well organized, peaceful and orderly.
