The Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal said one third of the registered voters in the state went to the polls on the first day and the voting should be wrapped up by tomorrow.

Governor Rizig Zakaria Hassan said that the first day of polling in the state was a success and more than thirty five percent of the almost 165 thousand registered citizens cast their vote.

Mr. Rizig added that the state government was encouraging voters to come to the polling stations quickly.

He said the voting was peaceful and there was no violence or insecurity registered so far.

The governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal made these statements yesterday while receiving the EU chief referendum observer Veronique De Keyser who toured polling stations in Rumbek and Wau with a group of invited journalists including SCR News.
