Southern Sudanese were queuing today in huge lines to be the first one to vote for self-determination amid excitement and celebration.
SCR News made a round-up by its six stations in the South and some local correspondents and the story was the same everywhere: long queues of people waiting patiently to vote, some even sleeping around voting centres to be the first. There was no incident reported except in Lainya where a 97 year-old woman was knocked by a car and died on the way to the polling centre.
In many polling centres old people, pregnant women and people with deficiency were given priority or a place seated in the shade to wait to cast their vote.
In general the polling centres opened on time and the staff was running the polling swiftly.
In Tonj, Warrap State, some voters were reported to be on line since 2 AM. The county authorities organized five cars to bring people with mobility problems to the voting centres.
In Western Equatoria, voting was proceeding well, under a strong security scheme.
