TORIT VOTERS LINE UP AT MIDNIGHT FOR REFERENDUM POLLS

Excited voters lined up at midnight to wait for the referendum polling centres to open at eight AM.

The anxious citizens of Torit who could not sleep before casting the votes to determine the future of the region, spent the night dancing and conversing with friends till day break, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Other equally enthusiastic voters, turned up at 3:00am to join their colleagues at the centres but the actual polling started at 8:00am.

Eastern Equatoria governor Louis Lobong Lojore told the press that there were voters at polling centres since midnight and women with their babies were the majority in the lines.

Anisia Achieng Karlo, State Referendum High Committee officer in charge of training, said many voters turning up at midnight in the polling centres because they could not sleep with excitement.

In most of the polling centre in Torit there were three lines basing on age groups, gender and physical ability.

The line for the elderly people, breastfeeding and pregnant women, the sick and the disabled had priority.

The voting exercise went on smoothly in the eight Counties of Eastern Equatoria state without any incidents.
