The visit the president of the republic is paying tomorrow to Juba will not affect the decision of the people of south Sudan during the referendum vote, a SPLM official said.

Anne Itto is the SPLM Deputy Secretary General for the Southern Sector. She met this morning with the press in Juba and cited concerns among the public over Omar Hassan al-Bashir’s visit to Juba five days ahead of the key referendum vote.

Dr. Itto said Mr. Al-Bashir’s visit is legitimate and the people of south Sudan have already made up there minds about an independent country.

She added that the public should not fear his visit.

Dr. Itto added that Mr. Al-Bashir’s coming to Juba will give him the opportunity to see the aspirations of the people of South Sudan.

She added that the people of south Sudan will also have the opportunity to tell President al-Basher what their choices are comes January 9.

Dr. Itto asserted that the CPA grants two options of unity and secession for the referendum.

She added that Mr. Al-Bashir’s visit is done in the spirit of the CPA and the Referendum Act.
