Security has been beefed up across south Sudan to ensure the safety of the population ahead of the south Sudan referendum on self-determination that is due to start in eleven days.
GoSS minister for Internal Affairs Gier Chuang Aloung told the press this morning that police forces were deployed all over South Sudan at their assigned centres.Mr Chuang added that so far there was no incident reported in the state capitals and in Juba.
He added that police would handle internal threats to the referendum while the SPLA would deal with external issues.
Mr Chuang said that the north has been bombing and flying over South Sudan territory but the leadership decided to ignore those provocations.
He added that if the North obstructs the referendum the South will respond.
Analysts warned that the Khartoum government risks another civil war with south Sudan if it stalls the referendum process or rejects its result.
However, the President of the Republic yesterday reiterated his commitment to support an independent brotherly South Sudan if it chooses secession.
