The President of the Republic this morning reiterated his commitment to support an independent Southern Sudan if it chooses secession in the upcoming referendum.
Addressing the people at Wadi Medeni, Omar Hassan Al-Bashir said the ball for either secession or unity was in the hands of Southerners, Baklhita Radio reported.Mr. Al-Bashir said his government would still support southern Sudan if it voted for separation.
The president explained that his government would help secure southern Sudan because any conflict in the south would affect the north.
Mr. Al-Bashir added that Khartoum would support stability and development of south Sudan.
The president made these statements in Wadi Madeni, Ghezira State.
