The youth of Rumbek asked their bishop to ordain permanent deacons to assist in the pastoral care in the diocese.

The youth expressed their wish at their third diocesan congress that took place in Yirol over the weekend, Good News Radio reported.

Bishop Caesar Mazzolari told the youth that it was difficult to find candidates who were married in the church and ready to commit themselves to two or three years of studies to be ordained permanent deacons.

Bishop Mazzolari emphasized that it takes long to prepare a permanent deacon due to the duties that include witnessing and blessing weddings, baptizing, preaching, and many other pastoral activities.

Bishop Mazzolari appealed to catechists married in the Church who completed secondary school to accept to leave their families for two or three years and attend theology training in Uganda or Kenya in order to become permanent deacons.
