The Pope’s representative to the Sudan urged the youth to remain united in friendship and joy knowing that the whole Catholic Church is in solidarity with south Sudan.
Archbishop Leo Boccardi made this statement on Sunday during the third youth congress organized by the diocese of Rumbek in Yirol mission.Archbishop Boccardi told the youth that they were the leaders of tomorrow and said he hoped and prayed that they would be the best leaders in their new country.
Archbishop Boccardi presented the youth leaders with a special medal from Pope Benedict.
He said that medal was usually given by the Pope to ambassadors and bishops during their visits to the Vatican.
The Third Youth Congress took place from Friday to Monday under the theme “Walking with Jesus towards justice peace and reconciliation.”
Some 500 youths from the Diocese of Rumbek took part in the event that included different presentations, prayers, speeches and entertainment.
