The 11th East African Community armed forces field training started on Friday in Muheza District, Tanga, Tanzania.
The objective is to train combined joint taskforce in planning and conducting peace support operations, disaster management, counter-terrorism and counter piracy.
Tanzanian Minister of Defence, Hussein Ali Mwinyi said the exercise would enable members of the armed forces to share knowledge and skills on matters of security.
He hailed the EAC partner states for their active participation in development, planning, and final real conferences that enabled the exercise to take place.
EAC Secretary-General Ambassador Liberat Mfumukeko said the exercise is conducted under the EAC Protocol on Cooperation in Defence Affairs.
Tanzanian Chief of Defence Forces, General Venance Mabeyo, said political and security challenges facing the region, calls for the regional attention to improve the capacity to maintain peace and stability.
He said the aim is to create conducive environment for social-economic development in the region.
