The Hakima Health Training Institute held a graduation ceremony in Kumu Fog, Heiban County, Southern Kordofan Sudan on Monday for its fist batch of nurses.
Thirty two nurses, 15 female and 17 male, received the diploma after completing the course, Voice of Peace reported.Mr. Ghandi Khalil Komu, Coordinator of Save the Children, said the students were able to conclude the course due to the support of the local community.
Mr. Komu added that the Institute was run by the Save the Children US until the NGO was expelled following the indictment of President Omar Hassan al-Bashir.
Shewangezaw Luli, a senior manager of Southern Kordofan, said the Institute is ready to recruit a new batch of students and if the facilities are enlarged from 86 to 160 places it can introduce courses on midwifery, pharmacology and public health.
Hakima Institute is training 15 lab technicians.
The course started in September and lasts for two years.
