People with disabilities in Central Equatoria are celebrating for the first time a two-day convention to discuss the referenda in South Sudan and Abyei and the popular consultations in South Kordofan and Blue Nile.

Magret Matthew Mathiang, undersecretary of the GoSS ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, told SCR News that people with disabilities were active members of the society who should not be left out in the democratic process.

Ms Mathiang added that the convention would establish a network to bring people with disabilities together.

Ms Mathiang said the government is listening to the people with disabilities to support and meet their demands.

Ms Mathiang added that the meeting was intended for people with disabilities from all over the region but logistic challenges restricted it to participants from Central Equatoria.
