The recent pardon granted by GoSS President to prisoners is not applicable to all people behind bars, said the chairperson of Southern Sudan Human Rights Commission.
Lawrence Korbandy told the press this morning that the presidential pardon applies to prisoners who have spent at least two thirds of their sentences already with good conduct.
Mr. Korbandy added that prisoners charged for murder, terrorism and higher treason are also not eligible for the pardon.
Mr. Korbandy said prisoners on remand do not qualify either.
Goss president Salva Kiir Mayardit issued a pardon early this month.
Mr. Korbandy explained that such pardons come towards festive periods like Christmas or during a special event.
