ITALY AND EGYPT TO TRAIN MIDWIVES

The governments of Italy, Egypt and South Sudan joined efforts to train midwives in South Sudan.

Addressing the press yesterday, Mauro Ghirotti, head of the development cooperation office in the embassy of Italy, said his government plans to send forty southern Sudanese midwives to specialized institutes in Alexandria, Egypt.

Mr. Ghirotti added that the training would upgrade their qualification and skills.

The training is ensured to reduce infant mortality rate in south Sudan.

The acting undersecretary of GoSS ministry of Health, Dr. Baba Samson, said that South Sudan has less that ten qualified midwives.
