The government of Eastern Equatoria pledged its commitment to fight corruption in the state.
Acting state governor Jerome Surur Gama made the commitment yesterday at the launch of an anti-corruption campaign at Freedom Square in Torit.Mr. Surur urged citizens to join ranks to fight corruption saying the vice is as destructive as HIV.
The acting governor said the government appointed a woman as Finance minister because women are more transparent than men and less prone to corruption.
Eastern Equatoria state government has been spearheading eradication of corruption since its inception after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
Over 2000 names of ghost employees were deleted from the government payroll last year and another 1000 remained till this year, an indication how difficult to eliminate corruption is.
