Eastern Equatoria Parliament yesterday passed the first ministry policy statement for 2011 after scrutiny by the Specialized Parliamentary Committee.
The policy statement of the ministry of Information and Telecommunications was the first to be tabled by the chairperson of the Committee who requested the House to pass it.However, the policy statement was approved only after the minister of Information and Telecommunications Allan Lochul Nasike met with a barrage of queries from MPs.
Some legislators demanded to know why areas in the state did not have access to telephone networks while other questioned the news coverage of the state Radio complaining that county levels events are often left out.
Ms. Nasike promised telephone network coverage in all counties before January 9.
She told the House that the state radio was established three years ago and it needs more training and options for career advancement for the radio staff to improve their efficiency.
Ms. Nasike said that the Parliament should support her bid to institute the Directorate of Training and pass the bill.
She added that her ministry also plans to strengthen the Directorates of Television and Information.
Today, MPs were expected to present to the House the referendum mobilization reports of their respective constituencies.
