Kauda Regional Hospital in Southern Kordofan State is struggling to survive since it opened at the beginning of August.
Nurse Rizic Kodi Bahkit who works at the hospital told Voice of Peace that the institution lacks many basic means needed to serve the community.Mr. Kodi said two doctors worked at the facility for only two months and they when back to the State as their contracts were not renewed.
He said the hospital lacks staff, medicines and basic medical equipment.
Mr Kodi added that the hospital is getting assistance from Save the Children, but the few nurses working in the hospital are mostly volunteering.
Ali Maki, Director of Health Centre and Administrative Units in Heiban County, said the County was facing many challenges to provide health services.
Mr. Maki mentioned that staff cannot work without salaries and they leave the health sector.
He added that only 170 staff in the county had been integrated out of more than 700.
Mr. Maki encourage the staff of Kauda hospital to continue working hand in hand with the community helping patients to be transferred to the medical centres where the right medical treatment is available until the situation in the hospital improves.
