The President of the Republic and his First Vice President failed to reach a consensus over the Abyei issue despite the AU mediation.
US Consul general in Juba Barrie Walkley told the press today that Omar Hassan al-Bashir and Salva Kiir Mayardit met on Monday in Khartoum under the mediation of Thabo Mbeki and did not resolve the Abyei question.
Mr. Walkley said the parties did not present a timeline for future negotiations.
Her added that he did not know what the future of the Abyei referendum was.
The US diplomat said the two sides presented contrasting solutions for the Abyei issue.
Mr. Walkley added that it is up to the diplomacy to help the two partners to reconcile their points of view.
