South Sudan medical doctors held a one-day discussion in Juba today to restructure and transform their association into a respectable union.
Over 20 health practitioners discussed the theme “Medical professional at the threshold of the referendum and beyond.”Edward Luka Iregu is the chairman of South Sudan Doctors Association. He told the participants that the meeting intended to create a new leadership and expand the association to meet the needs of the new nation to be born from the referendum.
Dr. Iregu said medics needed to form a strong organization to host an international scientific conference to address health issues in southern Sudan.
He added the region lacked professional medical doctors to serve the people.
Mr. Iregu acknowledged the association faced financial constraints and urged partners for more support.
He thanked GoSS’ support offering the practitioners free office space.
The seminar was presided by GoSS vice president Riak Machar Teny.
