South Sudanese are escaping from north-south border villages after last week’s aerial attacks in Aweil North County.

The Head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Southern Sudan Giovanni Bosco said 1,500 people left the border area of Northern Bahr al-Ghazal for fear of more air raids, Reuters reported.

SPLA spokesperson Philip s Aguer Panyiang said Khartoum newly-acquired Chinese planes flew over the boarder area to cause terror and disrupt the referendum.

Mr. Aguer added that people left their villages in anticipation of air attacks since tension developed in the areas.
