The new auxiliary bishop elect for the Archdiocese of Juba expressed thanks and asked for support after the announcement of his nomination.

Fr. Santo Loku Pio told SCR News soon after the Archbishop of Juba announced his appointment as auxiliary bishop that he thanked God and the Church of Juba that forwarded his name for bishop.

Fr. Loku noted that his appointment happened at a crucial time in the history of the country.

He added that the appointment of a young priest to be a bishop was a sort of referendum for the Catholic Church.

Fr. Loku was born on December 28, 1969 in Katire, Eastern Equatoria.

In 1986, he joined St. Mary’s Minor Seminary in Juba and in 1993 he moved to St Paul’s Major Seminary in Khartoum to study philosophy and theology.

He was ordained deacon on August 15, 2000 and priest on January 7, 2001.

Fr. Loku was the personal secretary of Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro from 2001 until 2004. Then he served as secretary general of the archdiocese for two years. In 2006, he was appointed parish priest of Terekeka where he stayed until October 2010.

Currently, he is the assistant parish priest of St. Theresa’s Cathedral, in Kator.
