The archbishop of Juba announced this afternoon that the Pope appointed this morning an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Juba.

Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro called for a meeting with church personnel this afternoon and told them that the Pope chose Father Santo Loku Pio for his auxiliary bishop.

Archbishop Lukudu said that he applied for an auxiliary bishop to the Vatican on March 1, 2007 to give him special pastoral support.

The Archbishop of Juba pledged with emotion to work hand in hand with his new auxiliary bishop.

Archbishop Lukudu said the announcement was a sign that God, Jesus, the Pope and the Church care for the Sudan.

Fr. Loku is 41 and was ordained almost ten years ago.

He will be consecrated bishop within three months.
