The Carter Center welcomed the successful start of voter registration for the South Sudan Referendum and urged the Commission to deliver additional materials to the referendum centres.

The Center added that the commission should urgently release regulations concerning the media campaigns, the exhibition and objections period, and polling and tabulation of results.

The Center recommended that the referendum commission should take action to ensure that eligible individuals are able to participate in the voter registration within the time remaining.

The Center deployed 46 observers across 22 states that made 600 visits to referendum centres. Another 26 observers are following the vote registration abroad.
