Women’s turn out for the ongoing voter registration process is low and officials are urging them to seize the initiative and get enrolled for the referendum.

Achier Deng, deputy chief of the Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau, urged women to register and men to support their wives, mothers, sisters and daughters in the registration process.

Dr. Deng reminded citizens that they have until December 1 to register.

Anne Itto, SPLM deputy secretary general for the southern sector, also appealed to women to register as they did during the elections to choose their leaders.

Dr. Itto urged women to use the referendum to determine the future of their children.

Meanwhile, the head of Southern Sudan Registration Bureau, Chan Reec Madut, said women were registering although in some centres the turn-up was low.

Justice Reec announced street activities in Juba to encourage women to register.
