The leaders of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) urged the SPLM and NCP to resolve remaining issues while promising support for post-referendum period.
IGAD Heads of State and Government held its sixteenth extraordinary summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, yesterday, to consider the progress on the implementation of the CPA in the Sudan.The assembly was attended by the presidents of Kenya, Uganda, Djibouti, Sudan and Southern Sudan and the prime minister of Ethiopia.
Thabu Mbeki, the Chairperson on the AU High level Implementation Panel and Sir Derek Plumbly, Chairperson of Assessment and Evaluation Commission, were also in attendance.
The participants wrote in the final communiqu√Ö¬Ω that the IGAD is committed to support Sudan during the post Referendum period for the sake of peace, stability and democracy, irrespective of whether the people of southern Sudan choose unity or secession.
It also urged the NCP and the SPLM to resolve quickly the remaining differences on the issues of border demarcation, the Abyei Referendum and Post Referendum arrangements.
