Torit County Commissioner denied rumours that some communities were boycotting voter registration.

Felix Otuduho Siro told Emmanuel Radio yesterday that media reports that some communities had boycotted voter registration were a baseless fabrication.

Mr. Otuduho clarified that what happened was that two villages that had less than 2000 residents had to be annexed to another referendum centre following the Referendum Act.

Mr. Otuduho said people from Lolianga, Chalamini, Otuhuba and Mutaram villages failed to turn up for registration due to long distances to referendum centres but the people did boycott the exercise.

He explained that some villages are over 20 kilometres away from a registration place.

The commissioner said Torit County Referendum Subcommittee resolved to provide transport for residents from the four villages to the centres.

He added that elderly, disabled, pregnant women and sick people will be transported to referendum centres.

Although residents in the four villages are registering one week later, the most important issue is that their names be included in the referendum registrar.
