NCP and SPLM negotiators concluded successfully on Saturday the week-long round of talks on the referenda and other CPA outstanding issues under the African Union’s mediation.

The African Union High Level Implementation Panel on Sudan said in a statement released today that the Khartoum negotiations concluded successfully and the parties agreed on a “Framework for Resolving Outstanding Issues Relating to the Implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the Future Relations of North and South Sudan”.

The parties committed themselves to work for the successful Southern Sudan referendum and pledged to respect its outcome.

They agreed that negotiations on the future of Abyei would continue between President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and First Vice President Salva Kiir Mayardit, with the participation of the AU Panel.

The parties committed themselves to the immediate demarcation of the North-South border that in the event of South Sudan’s independence will be the largest inter-states border in Africa.

The North and the South will continue to cooperate and share information to enhance internal and external security as well as trans-border crime.

There were also some generic agreements on citizenship and economic arrangements.
