The African Union Commission called on the President Omar Al-Bashir to ensure a proper atmosphere for the referenda exercise.
AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ramtane Lamamra, made the call in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the opening of the AU High-level Implementation Panel on Sudan, AFP reported.Mr. Lamamra said the AU panel expected the Government of Sudan to provide the required political space and environment, including security, for the referenda to take place.
He said the exceptional times required exceptional leadership.
