UK EXPECTS CPA PARTNERS’ COMMITMENT FOR REFERENDUM

A United Kingdom official said the UK expected the NCP and SPLM to adhere to the conditions of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement to ensure the referendum is conducted in a proper manner.

Andrew Mitchell opened today a newly constructed office in Juba for the UK Platform to coordinate closely with the government of South Sudan in political, economic and development spheres.

Mr. Mitchell told journalists that the time was critical for the referendum and the peace partners should stick to the CPA.

He added that the referendum was of paramount importance for the people of South Sudan to choose their future.

Mr. Mitchell urged the contenders to keep the political temperature down during the campaigns.

Mr. Mitchell reiterated the UK support to Southern Sudan.

He added that the British people invested much in the referendum process through their taxes.

He said the UK Government want the plebiscite to be free, fair and transparent.

The inauguration of the UK Platform office was attended by government officials, dignitaries, and the media.
