Cases of HIV and AIDS are on the rise in Jonglei state.
Peter Malith Majok, the HIV AIDS coordinator in Jonglei state, blamed the rate increase on returnees and poverty, Sudan Radio Service reoprted.Mr. Malith added that the rate of HIV AIDS in Bor town, Jnglei’s capital, was very high compared to 2006 through 2009.
He added that in Akobo, on the border with Ethiopia, AIDS rose especially amomg women.
Abraham Alier Dhel; a counselor in the VCT Center in Bor Hospital, said stigma and a lack of awareness contributed to the drastic increase in the high rate of infection.
