UK AID TOP OFFICIAL VISITS SUDAN

UK’s Secretary of State for International Development is paying a four-day visit to Sudan with Juba and Darfur in his itinerary.

Andrew Mitchell arrived in Khartoum yesterday.

Mr. Mitchell said his visit was a sign of the UK’s commitment to continue supporting Sudan through the critical challenges that lie in the months ahead.

He called on the Sudanese leadership to refrain from inflammatory statements and to reassure citizens in the north and the south about their rights and security.

Mr. Mitchell voiced UK’s strongs support to Thabo Mbeki’s efforts to mediate between the NCP and SPLM.

He added that the UK wishes the new round of talks on some CPA outstanding issues, including Abyei, results in concrete progress.
