The President of Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference or SCBC witnessed Community Media and Radio for Peace Network launching radio listeners’ clubs in Yambio.
Bishop Barani Eduardo Hiboro urges member groups to promote media services among South Sudan communities and work together for peace.
He pledges to work with the groups because he is a listener of different radio stations worldwide.
The Bishop asks Community Media to partner with the SCBC because it has a lot to communicate using the community instruments.
The team is in Yambio to train Anisa Radio friends on roles and responsibilities of listeners’ clubs, says Josephine Achiro Fartello, Executive Director of Media and Radio for Peace Network.
She appreciates UNESCO and partners for supporting communities in South Sudan through Media.
There is a need for the people of South Sudan to make good use of community Radios for positive change in the country, the Director emphasizes.
Radio Anisa Manager, Fr Elario Zambakari, urges UNDP and UNESCO to offer more technical support to the staff for effective contribution on peace building programmes.
He appeals to development partners to assist in rehabilitation of the radio by installing advanced electronic equipment.
Fr Zambakari discloses that the Catholic Diocese of Tombura/Yambio is planning to expand Anisa coverage to Amadi and Tombura through installation of repeaters or microwaves.
Network Director Achiro handed to Radio Anisa eight radio sets, four mobile phones and eight pairs of Kodak batteries for the two listeners’ clubs comprising 40 members.
