Officials from the African Union and the United Nations are discussing the upcoming referenda on south Sudan and Abyei in Addis Ababa since Saturday.
The AU commissioner for Peace and Security, Ramtane Lamamra, underlined the urgency of the tight timeframe while opening the talks, AllAfrica dot com reported.The chief of the UN’s peacekeeping operations, Alain Le Roy, said that the NCP and the SPLM needed to compromise on issues of dispute and urged the government to address the situation in the troubled region of Darfur.
GoNU foreign minister Ali Karti is attending the meeting.
