GoSS Director of Alternative Education System said the ministry is increasing the number of learning centres and teachers to accommodate for the huge turnout of youths attending school at cattle camps.

Kuol Atem Bol told SCR News that the students’ turnout among pastoralists was higher than expected and it needed more facilities and teachers.

Mr. Bol said cattle camp education was well accepted and the ministry is hiring another 300 teachers to open more schools.

Mr. Bol explained that the pastoralists saw the changes education brought to cattle camps through their kids who went to school.

He added that there are 30 learning centres in five states, and each state has six centres with two teachers apiece.

Mr. Bol said that almost 500 teachers are being trained for alternative education.

Alternative education for pastoralists was already established in Central and Eastern Equatoria, Jonglei, Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Upper Nile states.
