Some 30 grassroots groups members were trained to spread the word about the importance of registering and voting in the upcoming referendum on self-determination.

Gale Emmanuel Jacob is the program coordinator for the Institute for Promotion of Civil Society (IPCS). He told Easter Radio that the two-day training that took place in Yei aimed at implementing voter and civic education for members of community based organizations (CBOs) in Central and Western Equatoria states.

Mr. Gale said the participants were trained to mobilize people at village level to register and vote in the January 9 2011 referendum on self-determination for South Sudan.

He added the training was meant to pass on credible non-partisan information on the referendum process and the options for voting.

Mr. Gale said that fifteen CBOs supported by IPCS sent two representatives each for the training.

The participants received t-shirts and posters with messages mobilizing citizens to register so that they are eligible to vote in January.
