Tuberculosis is killing more patients in Yei Civil Hospital due to lack clinical officers to follow new cases.
Grace Kiden is the nurse counsellor in charge of the TB and HIV AIDS Ward in Yei Civil Hospital. She told Easter Radio that TB is killing more people since July when the department was annexed to the main hospital that lacks clinical officers and a doctor to assess the patients regularly.Ms. Kiden added that the rate of TB infections is still on the increase in the county and yet there are no enough beds for patients to be admitted.
She explained that the hospital receives four or five new cases per day but it has only 40 beds for TB treatment.
Ms. Kiden urged people to join hands in the fight against TB and encouraged patients to come for an early diagnosis since the illness is curable when detected in time.
She warned that a late response to TB may lead to death.
