A religious sister serving in Rumbek Catholic Diocese encouraged South Sudan women to be enterprising in order to achieve self-reliance and live with dignity.
Sr. Mary Mumu is the founder of St. Monica’s Women Association at Holy Family Cathedral Parish and heads the Women Desk in Rumbek Diocese.Sr. Mary told Good News Radio that St. Monica’s Women Group promotes women’s empowerment through various spiritual and material activities.
She explained that the spiritual empowerment takes the form of bible sharing while material strengthening involves tailoring, and soap, oil, and bead making.
Sr. Mumu encouraged women in Southern Sudan to take advantage of adult education.
She urged women to take up activities that can make them self-reliant like small scale business.
Sr. Mary founded St. Monica’s Women Association in 2000 to promote peaceful co-existence among women from rival tribes.
Many women have had their lives tremendously improved through education and acquisition of practical skills besides growing in faith.
