A senior Lakes State public health officer warned members of the public to observe sanitation norms to avoid facing the law.

Makor Ater Akony told the press in Rumbek that residents had to keep their environment clean beginning with their homes and that each family should have a toilet facility, Good News Radio reported.

Mr. Ater said his team would embark on a house-to-house visit to check the cleanliness of each family and business enterprise to combat cholera outbreaks.

He warned that those who did not meet the required standards would be taken to court and fined up to 300 Sudanese Pounds.

Mr. Ater confirmed that the sanitation situation in Rumbek’s homes, schools, and business premises was wanting.

He added that it was the intention of the public health office to enforce hygiene in the entire town.
