REFERENDUM NOT TO AFFECT EDUCATION PROGRAMME IN SOUTHERN SUDAN

GoSS minister for Education assured southerners that the upcoming referendum will not affect school programmes in the region.

Michael Milli Hussein said that Southern Sudan education curriculum changed from the Arabic pattern to English.

Mr. Milli explained that the education system and policies followed in Southern Sudan would not be changed by the referendum outcome.

He added that the ministry was promoting quality education through qualification of teachers.

Mr. Milli made these statements in Torit on Monday during the launch of a programme to strengthen Mathematics and Science learning.

Meanwhile, Eastern Equatoria state minister for Education, Science and Technology, Michael Lopuke Lotyam, told Emanuel Radio that the April elections and the political changes that followed, affected greatly the school.

Mr. Lopuke said his ministry made contingency plans to deal with any emergency during and after the referendum.

Eastern Equatoria schools will close from December 15 up to January 15, 2011.
