A Member of Parliament representing Abyei in the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly blasted at the Addis Ababa talks on Abyei between the SPLM and the NCP calling them unnecessary.

Arop Madut Arop told SCR News that the peace partners should form the Abyei Referendum Commission and implement the referendum law instead of re-opening the talks.

Mr. Arop added that the SPLM will not compromise the Abyei protocol despite the new round of talks in Addis Ababa.

Mr. Arop accused the US special envoy to the Sudan, Scott Gration, for taking sides with the NCP on the Abyei issue.

After US brokered round of talks failed on who qualified to vote in the Abyei referendum and on the borders issue, the African Union is consulting with the peace partners to prepare a new set of talks between the SPLM and the NCP in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital.

The new round was scheduled for tomorrow but Thabo Mbeki, the AU mediator, said the NCP and the SPLM needed more time to agree on the agenda for the negotiations.
