The office of Census and Statistics Commission in Lakes State is carrying out a business survey in Rumbek with the view of knowing the status of both private and public business.

Peter Jier Maker, Acting Field Operation Manager for Census and Statistics Commission in Lakes State, told Good News Radio that the ongoing business survey was the first of its kind in South Sudan.

Mr. Jier said that besides showing the requirements to establish a business in Southern Sudan in terms of capital and human resources, the survey would help the government know the status of the business community and provide vital information to potential investors.

Mr. Jier revealed that some traders withheld information, suspecting that the government would use it for taxation.

He said it was “not a major problem”, explaining that the importance of the business survey was clarified to the business community.

The Business Survey is expected to conclude by the end of this month.
