GoSS minister for Parliamentary Affairs warned nationals from neighbouring countries not to infiltrate voter registration for the referendum following NCP orientations.

Michael Makuei Lueth sounded the warning during a recent visit toiTorit, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Mr. Makuei said the NCP recruited people from neighbouring countries to infiltrate the voters’ registration and participate in the January 9, 2011 referendum.

He added that the NCP intended that foreigners registered either to vote for unity or not to vote at all to boycott the sixty per cent threshold necessary to legitimize the referendum.

Mr. Makuei said states like Eastern Equatoria which share several ethnic communities with other countries, need elders to identify who qualifies for registration at every centre near the border areas to block foreign infiltration.

Eastern Equatoria minister for Information and Telecommunications, Nasike Allan Lochul, told the press that the state government took these directives serious.

Ms. Nasike said she was optimist that the communities who share common borders posses some differences that distinguish them from one another making identification easier.

The minister said the communities and their traditional leaders knew their counterparts well and they would not allow any fraud during the registration of voters for the referendum.
