Eastern Equatoria ant-corruption crusaders unearthed about 1,300 ghost employees in the state government payroll.
Eastern Equatoria governor, Louis Lobong Lojore, unveiled the huge number of the ghost employees while addressing the state Legislative Assembly.Mr. Lobong said the public service reform program was one of the key issues in Eastern Equatoria.
One thousand two hundred and ninety six names on the payroll have emerged as absentee employees commonly known as ghost workers out of a workforce of about eight thousand and two hundred.
Mr. Lobongo dismissed accusations that his government was sacking people on political grounds.
The governor said that promotions among civil servants were being revised to detect unduly rises in the ranks.
Only the Ministry of Local Government managed to come out clean of ghosts though five employees were labelled absent.
