Sudan’s religious leaders are calling upon the governments of National Unity and Southern Sudan to ensure peace during and after the referendum period.

Isaiah Dau from the Pentecostal Church read a statement from the religious leaders to the participants in the All Political Parties’ Conference yesterday.

The religious leaders urged the two governments to ensure security before, during and after referendum.

They called upon all Sudanese to reject a return to war whatever the outcome of the referendum.

Leaders were urged to refrain from making aggressive statements and not to politicise the referendum campaign.

The religious leaders appealed to all stakeholders to hold the referenda in time and conduct them in a free and fair manner adding that the results should be accepted unconditionally.
