An expert in Agriculture offered a two-hour lecture on the importance of crop protection for the economy of southern Sudan.
Berlin Nelson is a professor of Agriculture at North Dakoda State University in North America. On Tuesday he gave a lecture at the Juba branch of the Catholic University of Sudan.Professor Nelson told SCR News that his lecture was intended to help students understand the importance of some crops that need special attention worldwide for food security.
He explained that sorghum, maize, cassava, groundnuts, millet and sweat potatoes were among other crops more important in South Sudan.
Professor Nelson explained that the small rural farmers need help to diversify their production and address the looming food insecurity in the region.
He added that small farmers are key elements for the economy and agriculture of southern Sudan.
Professor Nelson gave a similar lecture in the Faculty of Agriculture at Catholic University of Sudan in Wau.
