Salva Kiir Mayardit and Ali Osman Taha met in Juba yesterday to discuss a number of issues including the reported military build-up along the North-South border.

SUNA news agency reported that Mr. Kiir said both sides agreed to calm the situation and stop the media escalation between the NCP and the SPLM.

He added that the joint defense council and the ceasefire monitoring body were instructed to increase its activities along the borders.

Last week, Sudan armed forces said the SPLA was increasing its presence in the borders of Upper Nile state and White Nile states.

The SPLA denied the accusations and called for independent monitors to verify the claims.
